  Hi Guys

I ran a best time of 2.600 seconds with my sander, taking first place on Thursday July 1st. I will be ordering a new Comm and motor assembly from Makita this week. I am going to have a new wind with a thicker wire, balanced and dipped. I am still looking for another tenth off my time. I will post before and after photos of my comm on this site when its done.

  Thanks Sqiush

Squish,
Where does one go to get their armature rewound with larger diameter wire?  Is this something you would do yourself?

 Hi Meb

I have taken my armature to a electrical shop, where they do rewinds for generators. They are also doing some work on the motor assembly. My estimate was $200, they have told me this should be the maximum RPM for this motor at 11 amps. With my sander weighing in at just over 18 pounds, they say I still need some torque with all that RPM so that is were the work on the motor assembly is so important. They have told me they will be adding some bars to the armature as well. I will be looking forward to testing and seeing how much I can knock off my 75 foot time of 2.600 seconds.

                                              Thanks Squish

Squish!   Wow!   Your racing sander pockets are a little deeper than mine!   Don't think the Queen would be Amused if she caught me spending that much money on my modified sander!  Guess I'll have to work out some more back yard mechanic ways of speeding up mine.  I am though, very interested in seeing if you shave off that time like your hoping too!

  Hi Meb

I think I am dreaming to take off a tenth, but I always think positive. It was so hard to get it from 2.65 down to 2.60. I agree with you though, back yard tinkering seems the best way. Maybe playing with some more gear combos?.

  Thanks Squish

  Hi Meb

I think I might start a journal and keep track of the changes vs the times. I need to just change one thing at a time instead of two or three.

                                   Thanks Squish
